Onimusha Way of the Sword Switch 2
The Switch 2 version of Onimusha: Way of the Sword is the surprise package of the launch: it carries exclusive motion swordplay, and Digital Foundry calls it Capcom’s best RE Engine port on Nintendo’s console to date. Here are the confirmed specs and what the impressions actually say.
Confirmed Performance Specs
| Mode | Resolution | Frame rate |
|---|---|---|
| Docked | ~1080p (dynamic 720p–1080p + DLSS) | 30 FPS target; optional unlock up to 40 FPS on 120Hz displays |
| Handheld | ~900p | 30 FPS target (DF recommends locking to 30) |
Exclusive Joy-Con 2 Motion Swordplay
- Swing a single Joy-Con 2 like a sword: horizontal and vertical slashes map to real motions, and the Oni Bow can be aimed with motion.
- Motion play is single-Joy-Con only — the Pro Controller is not supported for motion.
- Polygon’s impression: genuinely fun, though closer to a party trick than a competitive way to play; the framerate dips in fast fights and the handheld image looks a bit washed out.
- Motion mode can be toggled — the game plays normally with standard controls.
What Digital Foundry & the Press Said
Digital Foundry’s analysis calls the RE Engine port the best Capcom has shipped on Switch 2, recommending handheld play locked at 30 FPS for stability. Producer Akihito Kadowaki told the press the team aimed for the Switch 2 version to be indistinguishable from the PS5 version — a high bar the port largely clears, with the expected resolution and framerate compromises.
