Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams (2006) — Game Guide & 2026 Re-release

Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams closed the PS2 era of the series in 2006 — a two-disc finale starring Soki and four switchable partners. In August 2026 it quietly returned through Sony’s PlayStation Classics programme. Here is the game, the legacy, and how to play it now.

How It Relates to Way of the Sword

Way of the Sword is a reboot with no story connection to Dawn of Dreams — you do not need to have played it. But the shared mechanics (soul absorption, Issen, the Genma) are a direct line of descent, and plenty of 2026 players discovered the series through Dawn of Dreams fans. If you liked the partner-switching of DoD, note that Way of the Sword is a solo Musashi adventure instead.
