Onimusha Way of the Sword Demo Secret Boss
The expanded Onimusha: Way of the Sword demo hides a secret extreme boss fight called Hyakue (百秽) — a "Special Sparring" battle Capcom never mentioned. It was discovered by players (not announced officially), and it is the single hardest fight in the demo. Here is everything verified so far: the exact unlock rule, the moveset, and what you get for winning.
How to Unlock Hyakue
The unlock condition is 10 successful Issen counter-attacks in a single battle — a "Special Sparring" prompt appears when the requirement is met. The rules, verified across the community:
- The 10 Issen must happen within one continuous battle — the counter resets if the battle ends, and reports say it also resets if you kill enemies mid-fight, so farm them without finishing the group.
- Avoid instant-kill moves while farming: two-handed heavy attacks and Break Issen finishers can end the fight early and reset the count.
- Farm against fast, weak mobs (sword foot-soldiers are ideal) and chain one Issen after another.
- The discovery is credited to players (originally shared by AkiraSoftFemboy) — the battle exists in the expanded demo, not in the June demo.
Hyakue Moveset & Strategy
- Hyakue has extreme stats: high damage, fast stamina recovery, and parries that barely pay off — this is a no-mistake fight.
- Axe slashes: his standard chain; parry the normal swings, but watch the slow/fast mix-ups.
- Dash attack and leaping slam: dodge sideways; the leaping overhead has a long wind-up — a safe punish window.
- Iron-mountain shoulder charge and hair attacks: block or dodge, do not try to parry the charge.
- Drag-slash (拖刀斩): parryable — one of his few moves that reliably opens a counter window.
- Berserk phase: two blood-spray ground attacks have clear floor telegraphs — get out, then punish. Watch for a grab follow-up after the blood mist.
The Finish QTE — Choose Your Reward
The execution QTE gives you a real choice:
| Choice | Effect |
|---|---|
| Cut the axe haft | Heals you, restores ammo, deals ~2,000 damage |
| Cut the head | Deals ~4,000 damage — the speedrun / no-damage choice |
Reward: Nothing (Really)
Players who have beaten Hyakue report no special reward — no item, no title, no carry-over bonus. The fight itself is the point: it instantly became the centre of the community’s "the demo is too easy" vs "the demo is brutal" debate. It is also the single most-searched secret of the demo, which is exactly why this page exists.
