Onimusha Way of the Sword Boss Guide

Boss fights in Onimusha: Way of the Sword are won by breaking posture, not just draining health. This guide covers all 18 main boss fights with per-attack answers (parry or dodge), the Break Issen timing, and what each boss rewards. It also covers the Boss Rematch mode and Carnage difficulty.

How Boss Fights Work

Sasaki Ganryu (Kiyomizu-dera)

The first major boss, also the demo’s finale. Ganryu fights with a long sword and is the game’s parry tutorial boss.

Daidara (The Stage Is Set at Kiyomizu)

Rasho-gan (Careful What You Wish For)

Ifuu & Burai (Windswept Kennin-ji / Late-Game Duo)

Greater Nue (Oikeniwa Pond)

Shuten Doji (Mt. Oe — the Gourd Drainer)

Dohatsu-ten (Recurring — The Roots of All Evil)

Byakue, Benkei, Dokyo & the Final Boss

Boss Rematch Mode & Carnage Difficulty

After the story, a Boss Rematch mode lets you refight all 18 bosses on three difficulty tiers — it is the core of the hardest trophy in the game, Glutton for Punishment (see the Trophy Guide). Carnage, the highest difficulty, is unlocked in New Game+ and re-tunes every fight around defensive posture play, Break Issen, and the Blazing Gauge → Oni Armaments → Oni Awakening chain. The Carnage-completion reward weapon makes the rematch grind far easier — a strong argument for clearing Carnage first.
